Early College High Schools
Through the Early College High School (ECHS) Initiative, the Texas High School Project supports the creation of innovative models for increased high school completion and college enrollment by funding higher education systems that establish Early College High Schools on their campuses or at related sites in high needs areas of the state (Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Houston, El Paso, and Dallas).
The mission of the Early College High School initiative is to provide traditionally underserved students (on campuses with high percentage of at-risk, economically disadvantaged students, and first-time college goers) an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and 60 credit hours toward an associate's degree and/or a baccalaureate degree in an academically supportive environment and at no cost. These Early College High Schools provide opportunities in which the students can succeed and help create a seamless transition between high school and college for these students.
THSP/CFT has awarded grants to four organizations to establish 12 Early College High Schools throughout the state and has committed $8.2 million to this project.
