Our Big Plans
We Have Big Plans for the Future of the Texas High School Project

By expanding the reach of our schools to districts and regions, we’re aiming for an accelerated impact statewide to reach as many schools and students as we can.
We Plan To:
- Extend our scope beyond high school to include middle school and the transition to postsecondary programs, including four-year, two-year and technical programs
- Provide school districts the tools they need for success
- Share best practices across the state
- Contribute accurate data that allows school officials to make the best decisions with the greatest impact on their students
Big Results
The Texas High School Project is a statewide collaboration between private philanthropists, the Texas Education Agency, policy makers and on-the-ground educators working to find innovative ways to improve Texas schools. Since its creation in 2003, THSP has touched the lives of students in school districts throughout Texas.
- THSP has allocated more than $377 million to support Texas education.
- 51 Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies; 5 of the T-STEM Academies are a blended T-STEM/ECHS model.
- T-STEM academy students are 10 percent more likely than students at peer schools and 14 percent more likely than students across the state to pass the 9th grade Math TAKS assessment.
- 7 T-STEM Centers are creating new STEM instructional materials and high quality professional development, supporting thousands of Texas teachers.
- 44 Early College High School (ECHS) Campuses.
- More than 1,100 ECHS students earned an average of 16 college credit hours each in 2008-2009; of 900 ECHS students who graduated in 2010, 308 earned an Associate’s degree along with a high school diploma.
Big Goals
THSP’s mission is to improve post-secondary readiness of low-income students in schools and districts throughout Texas.
Applying practical insights and proven solutions, THSP significantly impacts the transition from middle school through high school and into postsecondary programs.
Communities Foundation of Texas serves as the coordinating intermediary for the public-private alliance and manages the majority of private philanthropic investments. State and federal investments in Texas schools are managed by the Texas Education Agency.
